Welcome to Hull...it's never dull!

We read alot about Hull in the press and in guide books. They are often poorly researched articles and do not recognise the inspiring and cool people, products and ideas that have come from this great City and the outer lying villages.  The area has also had impact on people that have spent time here and laid great foundations for their own work and contribution to culture.

So this website Hull,s Hull of Fame was created just to set the scene that this place has been home to many great individuals and inventions. So, come along to Hull and see for yourself. I came to Hull for an intended 2 years in 1982 and I am still here and love the place and the surrounding Wolds. So jump in your car or step on the train and head for Hull and "come back to ours".

So a quick whizz around the Highlights of Hull you will find here; The screen you are reading this page on will have its origins in LCD Technology deleveloped at Hull University, Abolition of Slavery was led by Hull MP William Wilberforce. Authors and Poets with Hull ties include, Phillip Larkin, Andrew Motion, Andrew Marvell, John Godber, JRR Tolkein, Winifred Holtby.

Bands and musicians with local ties include; Housemartins; Beautiful South, Paul Heaton, Fatboy Slim, David Bowies band members - Mick Ronson and Trevor Bolder, Roland Gift of Fine Young Cannibals fame, Joe Longthorne. Trevor Bolder was also in Wishbone Ash and Uriah Heap.

Actors with strong Hull links include; Maureen Lipman CBE, Debra Stephenson, Reece Shearsmith, Marjorie Rhodes. The Movie Mogul Lord J Arthur Rank was also born on Holderness Road in Hull. Movie Director behind the English Patient that won nine Oscars was Anthony Minghella who went to Hull University.

If none of those are on your Venn diagram of interesting things then perhaps the fact the Venn diagram concept itself was created here in Hull will.

So spend some time here and find out something about Hull, its people, its events and its unique place in world history. As a huge port city its influence has stretched far and wide.

We hope you enjoy spending a little time here and if we have missed anything or you want to add or correct something drop us a line via email @ contactus@hulloffame.com.

The amazon links that are used on this site are how the site is funded. The webspace and the website name (Hulloffame), the computers used and the team require a bit of funding to make this website exist. So if you buy something from the Amazon links we get a tiny commission and it will just help us to carry on!  If you want to advertise here or sponsor us we would love to hear from you too.
